"I would like to take a moment to extend my support for the 2012 Technology Innovation Summit, hosted by Illinois Institute of Technology's Center for Innovation Science and Applications, in collaboration with the Iyka Enterprises, Inc.

As former Chairman of the DuPage County Board and someone who has been involved in DuPage County politics for three decades, I have witnessed firsthand how innovative technological advancements can help us build a stronger economic environment and a community able to create more jobs and greater stability. The TI Summit has become a critical resource to give attendees the information, insight and best practices needed to deploy such innovations that are necessary to drive economic revitalization in our communities.

As a partner in the law firm of Ice Miller, we have had considerable experience partnering with government entities and private businesses to create public-private partnership arrangements that support the needs of community financing projects. In a similar vein, I, and my partners at Ice Miller, am committed to improving the communities in which we live and work through efforts like the TI Summit which strengthens our community relationships and helps us connect resources to support our communal goals.

I look forward to being part of this year's TI Summit and thank everyone in advance for their continued support and commitment to this important endeavor."

Michael Mertes' Views on Technology Innovation Summit

As an attendee of last year's inaugural event, I found the information to be indispensible, not only as an economic development professional, but as a government employee.

Governments are often criticized for "falling behind" as improvements in technology occur. Facing limited resources, it is all the more important to learn how other governmental bodies are embracing technology despite budgetary constraints. Furthermore, it is critical for all layers of government in the Chicago metropolitan area to educate each other on what resources are available, and how to best utilize them. Public-private partnerships are crucial, especially in these economic times, and the Technology Innovation Summit provides some important groundwork and networking on how to make these partnerships happen.

The TI Summit is a valuable resource, and I look forward to attending its second year (of hopefully many more to come). I would recommend that my public sector counterparts participate in this year's event. As we know in most cases, what benefits my community also benefits the entire metro area, and vice versa. As an opportunity to exchange ideas and further educate ourselves, the TI Summit provides a channel of information that will benefit Chicaoland's growth throughout 21st century.
