As the Chief Technology Officer at Cook County Health & Hospitals System (CCHHS), Marlon Burns manages the organization's technical services teams, which span servers, networks, desktop, help desk, and data center operations. He also evaluates, selects, and recommends technologies used by CCHHS. Previously, he was a network server manager with Vanguard Health Systems and Siemens.
Mr. Burns has 25 years in automotive diagnostic electronics and Information Technology, the last 14 years in Health Information Technology and headed the technical services team that implemented the Citrix Presentation Server farm, on premise Cerner Millennium EMR system and a mix of web and other clinical application servers for the new John H Stroger Jr. Hospital which opened in December 2002. His current team projects include of deploying Single Sign-on with user device roaming features, multiple Active Directory forest consolidation and migration of all on premise SharePoint services to the Office 365 cloud.
Mr. Burns' recent achievements include:
- Introduction of new SSL clientless VPN access to provide secure access for physicians allowing them to view radiological images and patient EMR data from remote locations.
- Initiated migration of CCHHS email system to the cloud opting for the Microsoft BPOS solution which has now been upgraded to Microsoft Office 365.
